World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades can be used to increase the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.
Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's stats base increase when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, dependent on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is due to the sheer number of perks that need to be altered to upgrade an item.
It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players can use since PvP is not available at lower levels. Players can see their average level of item on their character sheet.
Utilizing the level of an item can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a useful indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it's able to deal. The level of an item can be used to compare items when looking at the inventory of a seller.
On PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are several theories about the method by which the level of an item is determined. Recommended Web site is that the level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the item's value. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzards actual item level.

However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, as the level of the area the item was dropped in could change the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
The item's stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modification that are in turn increased by the player's skill.
Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.
Affixes are a different method to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to give items additional damage, special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to distinguish them by adding a name.
Presently, all affixes are able to be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by the arrows that circle. This will cost a certain amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges as with other methods of rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it is an exclusive item or a God roll from a boss of a raid.
This is another aspect that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. As with the base equipment, it will have to be done per item and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the strength of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is more useful in early game runs since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each item level. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of an item, up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that deals damage by 5%. These items can be found in the shops or made by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25 percent, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by five percent.
The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This may block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
